PETER’S DENIALS  (DENYING CHRIST IN SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY)  (Continued)

Reading: Luke Chapter 22: 54-62 (KJV)

Finally, we come to the last occasion of Peter’s denials.  To refresh our minds, let us read it again.  Luke 22:59-60 "And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew."  As we compared the words of the maid who said Peter was with Him versus the man who said he was with them, it is necessary to weigh the words of this man also. This man’s emphasis is not only on the fact that Peter was with Him, but also that he is a Galilaean.

We have seen how Peter’s denials affected the soul and body, and now we are about to see how they impact the spirit also.  To reiterate, our adversary does not stop with the soul.  Ah, he indeed enjoys ravishing the soul and body, but His goal is the spirit man.  This is the realm of true worship and satan will do anything to get the spirit man’s worship.  To deny Christ Jesus spiritually is the ultimate crime of treason.

To appreciate the spiritual aspect of what is happening in this scenario as it relates to Peter, the Galilaean, we must review the prophetic words of the prophet Isaiah.  "Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined."_ (Isaiah 9:1-2). (Underline added for emphasis).  Be ever cognizant of our prior reference to the true meaning of failed faith as seen in the explanation of the eclipse. (Failed faith means separation from the Light that Christ is because in Him every need is supplied).  Peter allowed fear of reprisal to get between him and his Light.
