RAHAB: A PICTURE OF SALVATION OF THE SOUL (Continued)
Joshua 2:15-21 "Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. And the men said unto her, we will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear. Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee. And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. And she said, according unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window."
Rahab sent the messengers (the message) by another way (the Cross). Let us refer again to Isaish 55:11 which states that God’s Word will not return to Him void but will accomplish that which pleases Him and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto He sent it. Jesus Christ is the Word that was sent. He is the One Who accomplished all that pleased the Father and now the Father wants us to experience the prosperity of the Living Word that Christ is in our lives. Is anyone beginning to see the prosperity pendulum swinging too far in what is evidently the wrong direction in much of the Church today? Let us see the power and faithfulness of God’s Word through Rahab. She sent the messengers to the mountain to prevent the pursuers from meeting them. She is in all accounts prophesying to them because she knows the power of being hidden for three days. Stated another way, the message is hidden in the Redemptive Work of the Cross.
The Cross of Christ is the provision for deliverance. She is telling them what will exact her own deliverance. See how the Word is prospering with her! As her faith turns to action by letting the messengers down by a cord, she continues to proclaim God’s Word. The messengers are confirming the Word by taking her act of faith (cord) and revealing to her a more excellent way which is "this line of scarlet thread" instead of a cord. Have faith in God! Rahab respected the messengers and was comfortable with God’s Word being the final say. She said, "According unto your words, so be it." Beyond hearing the Word, she was also a doer for she bound the scarlet line in the window as instructed.
