THE STRAIT PLACE

Scripture:  2 Kings 6: 1-7

1  And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

2  Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

3  And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

4  So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

5  But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

6  And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

7  Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

Sons of the prophets may represent any group of believers set apart and powered by the testimony of Jesus Christ or the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:20).  This powerful group is often one through whom God demonstrates Christ’s Resurrection Power.  Although the scene in the above Scripture has them naturally positioned in a strait place, it speaks to a most powerful position spiritually for us.  Since the renewed spirit is mature and the soul (mind, will, and emotions) have to catch up, the sons of the prophets did not realize the magnitude of their location and set out to "test the waters."  Many believers do that today by not fully realizing our position and power in Christ and seek to do other exploits in His Holy Name only to come back front and center on Him again.

The sons of the prophets above were in a place that was too strait in their minds.  A strait place is one that is small or narrow and confining.  There is no room to turn to the right or left.  All sufficiency in God is found in the strait place, and Jesus described it as a way that leads to life.   Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it_ Mat 7:13-14.    Because Christ Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, hear Him today.
