RAHAB: A PICTURE OF SALVATION OF THE SOUL (Continued)
(Scriptures: Joshua 2, 6; Matthew 1:5; Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25)
James 2:25 (KJV) reads: "Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
Before we look at the historical account of Rahab, let us examine the spiritual significance of what she did. James records by the Holy Spirit that she not only received the messengers but sent them out another way. This is so profoundly important because in receiving the messengers she was receiving God’s message itself. God’s message is His Word. His Word will always reveal an aspect of His Son, our Deliverer, if we enlist the help of the Holy Ghost in order to see it. After receiving God’s messengers or His message, she sent "them" out another way. It is interesting the translators added the word "them."
God’s message comes with power and returns accomplished. When it returns to Him, It is never void (Isaiah 55:11) because It prospered in the thing to which It was sent. It returns another way or a new and living way. Because God’s message prospered in Rahab’s heart and ignited her faith, we see the alternate meaning of her name immediately. She experienced great enlargement by the spiritual instructions she gave the messengers (message) for their escape from the grasp of carnality and death (Jericho). Some of you already see now why the enemies of God were so intent on stopping and killing Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us go to Chapter 2 of Joshua and review the awesome exchange between Joshua’s messengers and Rahab.
