RAHAB: A PICTURE OF SALVATION OF THE SOUL (Continued)
Joshua 2: 4-5 " And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them."
Did you notice how Rahab’s faith was already in operation the moment she received them into her house? She took them and hid them. "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." (Psalm 119:11). She has been entrapped in carnality (Jericho) for so long until she knows the method of operation of the adversary and darkness of his kingdom. She knew they would pursue after them quickly. Pursuit means following after with the full intention of overtaking. So she told the cohorts of the wicked one what they wanted to hear, "for ye shall overtake them."
I hope you took the time to read the Parable of the Sower and Soils mentioned earlier. Here we see the effect of the Word being sown on good ground. It is hidden deep in the inner man of the heart and out of the grasp of the wicked one. The true message delivered effects deliverance! Only the power of the Gospel can do this for the believer. When the Gospel is delivered in power and received by the believer, it will not be overtaken by the adversary for the life of the Greater One is forever sown in the believer’s heart. As we see from the story of Rahab, the enemy is now obeying her instruction! As with the report of the seventy sent by Jesus in Luke 10:17 "...Even the devils are subject unto us through thy name."
