THE POSITION OF THE RIGHTEOUS
Scripture: Isaiah 33:16 He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.
Concerning the righteous, the Prophet Isaiah gives a spiritual snapshot of our position in Christ in the above verse. From a natural perspective, times are perilous. The words munitions take on a modern meaning of weapons due to decades of endless wars and conflicts. Spiritually, the picture is quite bright for the believer because of our position in Christ and because we have put on the Lord Jesus Christ as the Scriptures advise.
Munitions in the Old Covenant meant a fortification. The prophet spoke of the munitions of rocks. It brings to spiritual view a fortification of multiple aspects of revelation knowledge of our God. Quoting David the king and beloved of God, "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower." Christ Jesus used the rock’s unshakable strength in the Parable of the Foundations of Luke 6:48 when he declared, "He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock." Further, of Christ Himself it is written in I Corinthians 10:4, "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ."
Secondly, Isaiah declared of the righteous, "bread shall be given him." "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. I am that bread of life. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world (John 6: 35, 48, 50, 51). Christ our Lord, The Living Bread, The Word of God fulfilled, is the Source of our Life. He was given unto us by our loving Heavenly Father as a faithful Savior and Eternal Life.
Finally, of the righteous Isaiah declared, "his waters shall be sure." Waters are spiritual type of the cleansing Word of God. Through Christ, the believer has a Living Fountain within. John 7:38 outlines the simple formula, "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." To his message to the church at Ephesus, Paul the Apostle compared a husband and wife to Christ and His Church. The importance of the cleansing Word of God in both relationships is paramount. Paul said, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:25-27).
