CHRIST, THE ARMOR OF GOD (Continued)
Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
The root meaning of the word shield is an open door. John 10:9 reads, "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved..." Jesus Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith. In Him we shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. He protects us from all harm. It is an unlikely combination that a shield should "quench" a fiery dart. A shield is likely thought to protect by blocking the dart. Generally, water would comes mind when the word quench is used. Yet, we read that the shield of faith or the Door that Christ is will extinguish or put out the all fiery darts of the wicked. Praise God for His wisdom that passes understanding.
The aim of the enemy’s dart is the mind. The enemy shoots a dart without regard of where it lands. He does not care if one recently received a revelation of Christ, standing on a word from God or a new convert. The enemy’s hope is to simply penetrate the mind. Christ makes that impossible if we put Him on. Allow Him to be the Shield of faith that the Apostle Paul boasted by Whom he lived his life in the flesh.
There is an Old Testament account of Daniel’s three friends being thrown in a fiery furnace. They had no hurt because the form or appearance of a fourth man was with them. Daniel 3:27 sums their victory up this way, "And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them." In other words, they were encapsulated in the Son of God as we believers are now in Christ. The sum of it all is that the fire of the enemy could not penetrate the Son of God, our Covering. Alleluia!
