"...proving that this is very Christ." _ Acts 9:22

AUGUST 14th

THE FIRST VOW (Continued)

Scripture Reading: Genesis 28:20-22

20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God:

22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Jacob’s next request of God was that He would give him bread to eat. By now it should be easier to see that Jacob has commenced a spiritual journey, and the requirements for his sustenance are not as one would suppose. The way he was now going speaks to the believer of the Lord Jesus Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Such a spiritual journey requires understanding that God is the sole Provider for all that is needed. This holy trek only requires a pilgrim’s unwavering faith, and God will see to the rest. God must have been honored hear Jacob call unto Him for his needs so that he could keep his vow.

Jesus was teaching in John’s Gospel made the following declarations: "For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world (6:33)." "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst (6:35)." "I am that bread of life (6:48)." "I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world (6:51)." Christ Jesus is our daily Bread that God has given us to eat in the Way.
