RAHAB:  A PICTURE OF SALVATION OF THE SOUL

Scripture Reading:  Joshua Chapter 2

Rahab’s deliverance from Jericho by Joshua and his army depicts the believer's soul trapped in bondage (carnality) to the king of Jericho (Adam).  Her name basically means proud.  Pride defined is a conceited sense of one’s own superiority rather than that of Christ’s which in essence describes the condition of the unsaved soul.  However, the root meaning of Rahab’s name gives us a glimpse from God’s view of His true purpose for the life of the believer.

The root of her name means roomy (in any direction), make room, broad, large, and wide or make (open) wide.  She went from being an entrapped harlot to a position nestled in the lineage of Christ and the faith hall of fame.  That is very large indeed!  Let us follow her deliverance and embrace the parallel of the scarlet thread and delivering power of the Blood of Jesus.  May the Spirit of God enlighten every reader, Amen.
