HABAKKUK’S PRAYER UPON SHIGIONOTH (Cont’d)
Scripture Reading: Habakkuk 3
The reference Scripture continues as follows:
5 Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
The prophet’s prayer is clearly a testimony of the Work of Redemption by Jesus Christ our Lord. We have seen how the Lord came from glory with power. Now we see His redeeming ministry swing into operation. The term pestilence is the same as used to describe the dealings of God toward the Egyptians when His people were delayed by Pharoah from leaving bondage. The same dealings that brought destruction to the Egyptians were bringing deliverance to God’s people. Oh that we could wake up this truth!
The root meaning of the Hebrew word for pestilence here is to speak or to declare! The powerful Speech or Word the prophet described in Habakkuk 3:2, goes before Him and is a Voice to His enemies that is routing them with each Expression! The burning coals which go forth at His feet speak to the Message of the Altar where a Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world near the Throne of God. The prophet Isaiah (Chapter 6) saw the Lord seated upon His Throne when king Uzziah died, and a seraphim brought a live coal from that Altar and put it upon the prophet’s lips. The seraphims are beings around the throne of God crying to one another, "Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory."
