HE SHALL BE CALLED… (Continued)

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Isaiah 11:1-7 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

2 And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

     Continuing with our focus on Christ both Head and Body and the desire to grow up into His fullness and manifest His nature, the discussion now points to Christ as Counselor. A counselor is one who gives wise counsel and has great wisdom. Proverbs outlines the serious problem when there is no counsel and defines our part in allowing Christ as Counselor to be heard and seen in His Body. Proverbs 11:14 reads, "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety." Proverbs 15:22 continues, "Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established." Lastly, Proverbs 24:6 states, "For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety." Throughout Scripture one can readily see that our Lord’s counsel is known by His mighty Works. His Divine Advice is clearly seen through eyes of the Spirit yet is enshrouded in mystery to the unbelieving heart.
