THE FIRST VOW (Continued)
Scripture Reading: Genesis 28:20-22
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God:
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
Jacob’s dream of a ladder provides a powerful type of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is this writer’s belief that his dream had a monumental effect on his vow. This article has established that the root of the word ladder means to cast up a highway as seen in Isaiah Chapter 35. Isaiah says in another place, "And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people _ 57:14." That Scriptures continues by adding that the Lofty One of Israel dwells in the high and holy place and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit.
No one can get to the Father of eternity in His high and holy place but by Jesus Christ. This ladder is so emphatically fulfilled in Christ Jesus as revealed in John’s Gospel where Jesus told Nathanael he would see greater things. "And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man _John 1:51."
