AUGUST 16th
THE FIRST VOW (Continued)
Scripture Reading: Genesis 28:20-22
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God:
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
So that I come again to my father's house in peace. The focus now is on the reason for Jacob’s request that God be with him and take care of his basic needs. Every believer’s heart is to come again to our father’s house. It is where we belong. How often have we taken trips in the natural and had a wonderful time yet upon returning home sighing, there is no place like it. Jesus said there are many mansions or abodes in Father’s house (John 14:2). What a beautiful picture of the new creature. A mansion fashioned after our Lord! The King abides in you!
How familiar we are with the story of the Prodigal Son. Most of us learned it in our youth. The joy of returning to father’s house! For those unfamiliar with this story, please read Luke Chapter 15. It is a powerful type of what awaits the return of a son of God. It shows how Father sees the believer a long way off and comes to meet him in the way. A celebration awaits his arrival because it is a true homecoming! The household is alive with joy. This story also sheds light on the lack of peace outside of father’s house compared with the joy and peace that is in Father’s house. In Christ one comes again to Father’s house in peace.
