THE SABBATH DAY HEALINGS OF JESUS OF NAZARETH (Continued)

THE HEALING OF THE MAN WITH DROPSY (Continued)

Scripture Reading: Luke 14:1-6

1And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

 2And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

6 And they could not answer him again to these things.

     Now let us focus on the outward sign of dropsy. It is very evident in swelling. Keep in mind that this man represents a spiritual condition of the Body as a whole. There is an unnatural collection of fluid, a picture of the water of the Word, because the forces within are unable to control or regulate the fluid exchange. Medically, the edema takes on its own identity depending upon what part of the body it affects. Denominations perhaps.

     Our focus is on the outward sign of swelling or Scripturally rendered, puffed up. There are several Scriptures that are interjected hereafter and beginning with Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians is a great place to start. There was a problem of division in that body and division plays a great role in the unnatural collection of fluid or Word. For example, I Corinthians 4:6 reads: "And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another." It continues in verses 18-20, "18 Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you. 19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power. 20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. Many have great knowledge of the Word but deny Its Power through schisms and unbelief! Ever learning but never coming into the knowledge of the Truth!

     The close interaction of the heart and reins is seen in Colossians 2:18, Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind." The mind is a heart area but the puffing up is manifested in the reins! Dropsy also occurs when the body has lax habits or is debilitated by disease. Love never gets lax! Bear in mind the guidance from I Corinthians 13:4 to avoid being puffed up. It reads: Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. The outward manifestation of dropsy is a sign of a much deeper spiritual issue and only Christ can correct the matter which He did on the Cross by taking His Body into Himself, healing It and letting It go by releasing the pain of death caused by sin.
