"...proving that this is very Christ." _ Acts 9:22

THE FIRST VOW (Continued)

Scripture Reading: Genesis 28:20-22

20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God:

22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Jacob’s vow was fulfilled in Christ for every believer. This truth is easier seen point by point. The first point is that Jacob realized that in order to fulfill his vow, he needed God’s help. He began his vow with, "If God will be with me…" Jesus said in Matthew 28:20, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." What a promise to the believer! Consider that no matter what the situation, Jesus is with us until the end of the world or age. Hebrews 13:5-6 adds, "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

In Matthew Chapter One, the birth of Jesus is described. Verse 23 reads, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. " Again, God with us! The wonderful assurance there is in knowing that God’s Word is true, and He is with His people. In John 14:23, Jesus outlines fully all that is required to ensure His Presence in the life of the believer. When a man named Judas asked Jesus how is it that He would manifest Himself to them and not unto the world, He said, "If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." Oh, what leverage there is when we are aware that God is with us!
