THE SABBATH DAY HEALINGS OF JESUS OF NAZARETH (Continued)

THE HEALING OF THE MAN BLIND FROM BIRTH

Scripture Reading: John 9 :1-7

1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

This healing is about a man blind from birth. A mature man never having seen. He is a picture of many who are adults physically, but they have never had eyes to see by the Spirit. When one is blind, he or she is heavily dependent upon other senses to exist. The problem comes in spiritually when these other "senses" are not trained by the Holy Spirit. Before we get into the pitfalls of depending upon other carnal senses, do not overlook the trappings of having to be led by someone else at all time.

First, hearing is a natural sense that would be very important to one who is blind. By what does faith come? Faith cometh by hearing. A preacher needs to be sent from God so that one can hear spiritually. What if the preacher is not from God? Romans 10:14-17 reads, "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." As the Apostle Paul proclaimed in 2 Corinthians 11:3-4, But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. Hopefully, the point is being made and the danger is becoming clear.
