THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM
And thou shalt speak unto all [that are] wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of
wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. _ Exodus 28:3
Simply defined, wisdom is the ability to know what is true or right, common sense or the collection of one's knowledge. This definition sounds fine to the natural mind; however, First Corinthians 1:20 states that God has made the wisdom of this world foolish. It is helpful to see how a word is first used in Scripture to help us understand the thought of God. No doubt wisdom was in operation from the beginning, but it is first named in the above Scripture in Exodus where it is called the spirit of wisdom.
Wisdom was a prerequisite for making the garments of Aaron, the high priest, to consecrate him or set him apart for the priest’s office to minister unto God. Aaron’s priesthood was a type and a shadow of the Priestly Office of Christ Jesus our Lord. Aaron’s priesthood is called imperfect in Hebrews, but that which is Perfect has come in Christ. Christ Jesus is a Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, the order of an endless life. Christ Jesus, our High Priest, has been made unto us wisdom (First Corinthians 1:30) and hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father (Revelation 1:6). May we look unto Him and appropriate Him as Wisdom so that He may be glorified in and through us.
