BEZALEEL:  A SPIRIT-FILLED VESSEL

See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,_Exodus 31:2-3

Bezaleel is mentioned in Scripture as being filled with the Spirit of God.  His name means in the shadow or protection of God.  Bezaleel was equipped to devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass.  This Divine ability gives us a glimpse of how Christ is equipping His saints for the work of the ministry.  Cunning works speak to the thoughts of God.  By his Divine skill, Bezaleel put the very thoughts of God’s heart on display.

Bezaleel worked in gold, silver and brass. Together, these metals offer spiritual eyes a compact perspective of Christ’s Redemptive Work.  Gold speaks of the divine nature of Christ, silver speaks of redemption and brass speaks of judgment.  The judgment of this world came at His Crucifixion. He drew the force of sin into Himself and redeemed mankind by His shed Blood.  He is the Head, and we are His Body.

Bezaleel’s father was Uri, whose name means fiery.  Our God is a Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12:29).  Sons of God should maintain the thought that the Fire of God will either purify or glorify.  He burns that which binds us or is unlike Him and fit only for destruction.   Joel declared in Chapter Two, that our God is a fire that devoureth before us and burns behind us.  Before us is the land as the Garden of Eden, and behind us is a desolate wilderness. Nothing shall escape us for we are in the shadow or protection of God as Bezaleel’s name suggests.

Bezaleel's name meaning brings Psalm 91 in view.  This psalm describes the power of abiding in the shadow of the Almighty.  As you read it and meditate on it, reflect on God's great faithfulness and be assured of his new mercies each day immediately upon awakening.  May God bless you richly by Christ our Lord.
